Summer 2010 @ North Hills Church
Summer provides some new opportunities for all of us to grow together in Christ. No matter your age, please consider how you can participate and serve together with us this summer.

    Summer Worship
During the months of June and July, we will worship together at 10:00am.  During these months we will not have Sunday School.  We also invite you to stick around for a while after the worship service for a time of fellowship.  We’ll have coffee and lemonade available in the foyer.

    Catechism Club
Two age groups (age 4-K & 1st-4th grade completed) will meet during the last portion of the morning worship service during our Summer Worship schedule (June & July).  The children will be dismissed for CC prior to the sermon.  This will be fun time of learning and Scripture memorization.

    Whatever Wednesday
WW is back (!) and will be held every other Wednesdays on these dates:  June 9th & 23rd; July 7th & 21st.   WW is a VBS style children’s program for our children through elementary school.  Philippians 4:8 will be our theme this year.

    Youth Group
NHC Youth Group (rising 6th graders & up) will have some special outings and opportunities for fellowship sprinkled throughout the summer…stay tuned for more details.

    Desserts at the Tisdale’s
Once again the Tisdale’ s will host desserts at their house during the summer on a few Monday nights (June 14th & 21st; July 12th & 19th).   Come enjoy good eats & drinks and some informal fellowship.

    College/Career Study
Starting Thursday, May 27th Pastor Adam will lead a study for college students and young adults on Thursday nights at the Tisdale’s.  This study will consider the topics of God’s will and calling.

    Summer/Family Choir
We are looking for singers of all ages, voices, and types!  Don’t read music?  Want to learn?  We’ll help!  Try something new!  Practice begins on Wednesday night, June 16th at 6:30pm and continues through the summer.  Anyone who can read and sing is welcome!  Bring the whole family 8 & up.

    Presbytery @ North Hills
We have the opportunity to host Providence Presbytery on Tuesday, August 3rd.  Presbytery is the quarterly meeting of the ruling and teaching elders in a particular geographic area.  These meetings consist of reports from ministries of our presbytery and churches, worship, and fellowship.  Typically, the host church provides breakfast snacks & lunch for those attending.

Summer can be a time for rest, vacation, and new opportunities.  And sometimes it’s just a different kind of busy.  Either way, let us not neglect the opportunity to grow our faith, serve, and love one another.

  • Service Project at DRM

Part of our 2010 Missions Week was a service project at the Downtown Rescue Mission.  We were able to help them with a couple of tasks:  some cleaning in the sanctuary and organizing their canned-good storage – the canned goods were not organized in any fashion.  We were also able to take a tour and hear some testimonies from a few of the residents  Here are some pictures from that project:

Remember, sinner, it is not your hold of Christ, that saves you – it is Christ; it is not your joy in Christ that saves you – it is Christ; it is not even faith in Christ, that that is the instrument – it is Christ’s blood and merits; therefore, look not to your hope, but to Christ, the source of your hope; look not to your faith, but to Christ, the author and finisher of your faith; if you do that, ten thousand devils cannot throw you down¼There is one thing which we all of us too much becloud in our preaching, though I believe we do it very unintentionally – namely, the great truth that it is not prayer, it is not faith, it is not doings, it is not our feelings upon which we must rest, but upon Christ, and on Christ alone. We are apt to think that we are not in a right state, that we do not feel enough, instead of remembering that our business is not with self, but with Christ. Let me beseech you, look only to Christ; never expect deliverance from self, from ministers, or from any means of any kind apart from Christ; keep your eye simply on Him; let His death, His agonies, His groans, His sufferings, His Merits, His glories, His intercession, be fresh upon thy mind; when you wake in the morning look for Him; when you lie down at night look for Him.”

  • What Can You Do with the Gospel

Posted on February 25th, 2010 Adam Tisdale No comments

This is from Justin Taylor’s excellent blog:  Between Two Worlds

Just a sample list from only two verses.

    You can (and should):

    • preach it
    • hear it preached
    • deliver it
    • receive it
    • believe it
    • be saved by it
    • remember it
    • remind others of it
    • stand in it
    • hold fast to it

“Now I would remind you, brothers, of the gospel I preached to you, which you received, in which you stand, and by which you are being saved, if you hold fast to the word I preached to you—unless you believed in vain.”1 Corinthians 15:1-2

  • 2010 Prayer Goals

Posted on February 1st, 2010 Adam Tisdale No comments

These were introduced at our Annual Congregational Meeting (January 31st, 2010).  These are four ways that the congregation is encouraged to pray together during this year:

    1.  Spiritual Strength @ North Hills
Colossians 1:9-12 And so, from the day we heard, we have not ceased to pray for you, asking that you may be filled with the knowledge of his will in all spiritual wisdom and understanding, so as to walk in a manner worthy of the Lord, fully pleasing to him, bearing fruit in every good work and increasing in the knowledge of God.  May you be strengthened with all power, according to his glorious might, for all endurance and patience with joy, giving thanks to the Father, who has qualified you to share in the inheritance of the saints in light.

    2.  A Blessing to our Community
Jeremiah 29:7 But seek the welfare of the city where I have sent you into exile, and pray to the Lord on its behalf, for in its welfare you will find your welfare.

    3.  Boldness in our Witness
Ephesians 6:18b-20 To that end keep alert with all perseverance, making supplication for all the saints, and also for me, that words may be given to me in opening my mouth boldly to proclaim the mystery of the gospel, for which I am an ambassador in chains, that I may declare it boldly, as I ought to speak.

    4.  Substantial Reduction of our Debt
Matthew 7:7-11 Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you.  For everyone who asks receives, and the one who seeks finds, and to the one who knocks it will be opened.  Or which one of you, if his son asks him for bread, will give him a stone?  Or if he asks for a fish, will give him a serpent?  If you then, who are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven give good things to those who ask him.”
